Pete is very excited about the first Patriots game! He’s wearing his first hand-me-down from his big sister too … my sister had bought the outfit when I was pregnant with Brienna but when she couldn’t use it, decided to save it for the next mini Marr. And here he is:
Pete had an eventful Labor Day weekend – he is quite a busy baby! We started off the weekend with his friend Kate’s 1st birthday party in Hull:
Then it was on to the Cape for the rest of the long weekend. Though we didn’t have the best weather, we had lots of fun. The main event of the weekend was a bonfire at Nauset Light Beach. There are only four permits allowed per night (and they go fast) so we were very happy to get one. We had done a fire last year as well, but this time we knew what we were doing and had quite the setup. Our group expanded from just us Marr’s to include my mom, Kris and Shay, my Aunt Patty and Uncle Steve and my cousin Steve and his girlfriend Marissa, making it even more fun! We had snacks and drinks, cooked burgers and hot dogs on a charcoal grill, and of course made s’mores at the end of the night.
The rest of the weekend was spent relaxing at the Marr’s house and as usual, we thoroughly enjoyed our little getaway!
We spent most of last week on the Cape with my parents and it was great to get away and have some quality family time. Poor Pat had to leave on Thursday for a work trip to NJ, but Pete and I managed to have a little bit of fun on our own.
My parents were staying in Chatham, so we had dinner at Pat’s parents house in Harwich on Tuesday night. Pete was doted on by his adoring grandparents and it was so fun to have everyone together!
The rest of the week was spent loungin’ at the beach. Pete even dipped his little toes in the water and loved it!
I’m hoping to have a slideshow up soon with pictures from the last few weeks … for now, I’ll leave you with this one of our smiley guy!
Pat and I had very similar childhoods growing up, right down to when our parents got married. My parents just celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary and Pat’s just celebrated their 35th! We are very proud of them and know how fortunate we are to have grown up with parents that loved each other then and continue to love each other now. Pete is a lucky little grandson and both sets of grandparents insist he’s the best anniversary present. We tend to agree!
Not much to report, so figured I’d just share some pictures from the weekend! Pete went to his first graduation party on Saturday and then we had a low-key day on Sunday, taking full advantage of the gorgeous weather and spending lots of time outside!
Pete continues to grow, change and amaze me every day. We just hate having him around 😉
Pete is a lucky little guy and has spent lots of time at the Cape the last two weekends visiting his Nana and Grampa Marr! We started off his first visit with a trip to Coast Guard beach, one of my (and Bailey’s) favorite places. We head there at the start of almost every Cape trip because dogs are allowed year-round at all National Seashore beaches. Which means Bailey gets to run. And run. And run. The more exhausted she is, the better behaved she is!
It was Pete’s first trip to the beach and we loved it. Brienna spent many a weekend tucked safely inside me as Pat, Bailey and I played on the beach. I dreamed of being able to walk with her in a carrier or hold her little hand as our family strolled the beach. My heart broke a little when we visited with Pete, because I never got to live that dream with Brienna. I always feel just a little closer to her near the water, so it was emotional to finally live out that dream with Pete … I hope we get to do it many, many more times.
Here are some pictures from Pete’s first weekend:
Fourth of July weekend was extra special because Nana Quinn was visiting as well. She and Pete spent lots of time together and Pete told her all his secrets while she listened intently:
Pete had lots of fun hanging outside with his dad:
And celebrated the holiday in style:
He also watched his first fireworks at Pam and Steve’s house on Hyannis Harbor. Per usual, he was unaffected by the noise and seemed to watch in fascination as the sky was lit up:
We capped off the long weekend with Pete’s first daytime trip to the beach. I don’t think he quite knew what to make of the sand, but seemed to love the breeze and the sound of the waves. Either way, he looked adorable and we can’t wait for many more trips to the beach and the Cape!
It gives me great pleasure to wish Pat a happy father’s day. The last two father’s days were more bitter than sweet with Brienna not being here, so yesterday was truly a day to celebrate. Seeing Pat with Pete brings me such joy. I love watching them together … Pete is a lucky little guy to have such a great dad!
Happy Father’s Day to Birdie and Grampa Marr too – we love you!
Our 10 year PC reunion was this weekend (yes, we are old!) so we stopped by the BBQ on Saturday afternoon to check things out. We are so fortunate to still be very good friends with our PC crew and we see each other fairly often, but it was nice to run into people we don’t often see. It was also an excellent opportunity to show off Pete, the newest member of the class of 2033. (Though based on current tuition rates, a private college education will be be about $400,000 by the time he’s ready, so PC may not be in the cards!) It was your reunion if your class year ended in 1 or 6, so it was also Liz’s reunion (Class of 2006) and Grampa Marr’s reunion (Class of 1971). We have quite a family tradition at PC!
Speaking of Grampa Marr, we celebrated his birthday today with a delicious brunch and then cake at our house. Pete loved spending time with his grandparents, and from the looks of things, the feeling is mutual!
Pete had a very busy weekend. My brother and his family were in town to celebrate my niece Lena’s christening and my nephew Quinn’s 5th birthday. Things kicked off Saturday morning with a visit from Nana and Grampa Marr and the Vogel clan.
Then it was on to my friend Jamie’s wedding and Quinn’s birthday party! I forgot how much little kids LOVE birthdays. Quinn was so excited and Reece (who turned three in April) wished everyone a Happy Birthday. We had delicious cake at my parents house, lots of present opening, and of course, pictures!
Tim, Jenny and the kids came to our house on Monday for lunch and we attempted to get a picture of all four kids. Given that one was less than two weeks old and the oldest just turned 5, I’d say it came out pretty good! It certainly went better than I expected anyway!
We were nonstop go the entire weekend, but had a great time and can’t believe it’s already over! The cousins left Boston last night, but we’re already looking forward to seeing them again soon!
Thank you all for the munchkin’s baby shower!! Despite my initial reservations about having a shower, I am glad we did. It makes me sad that we weren’t able to do the same for Brienna, but I know she was there with us. I know she felt all the love in that room and knows that in many ways, it was for her and the munchkin. Like I said on Sunday, the last two years have been overwhelming at times but we are here today because of all the love and support you’ve given us. So thank you. I truly don’t know how we would have survived everything without all of you … hopefully this is the start of more good things to come. It was fun to celebrate a happy occasion and it means so much to us to know that the munchkin is already so loved! We are getting pretty excited to meet him/her!!
Thank you also to our moms and sisters for making the shower such a success. I know they worked very hard to pull everything together pretty quickly, and we love them for it!! It was a great day and so many little special touches were because of them. We are so lucky to have them in our lives!
I also want to say a very special thank you to my best friend Andrea who flew in from LA to celebrate with us. We’ve been friends for a long time (the picture below is from 1983!) and I am beyond grateful to her for being there to celebrate … I can’t really express in words what it meant to me, but suffice it to say, it meant a lot!!
I think Pat will be posting a poll soon so everyone can cast their vote on whether they think we’re having a Mr. Munchkin or a Miss Munchkin … it’s hard to believe there’s less than four weeks to go until we find out!
